  • One Rice database, RiceSzWtBase developed by our lab is now out for public access. This contains all the sequenced reads and analysed polymorphism dataset of grain size contrast four Indian genotypes (LGR, PB 1121, Sonasal & Bindli). This also serve as repository of polymorphism across LDR for 3004 rice accessions.

  • One rice genome evolution focused study from our lab is out "Genome-wide analysis of polymorphisms identified domestication-associated long low diversity region carrying important rice grain size/weight QTL", and it got published in The Plant Journal.

Here, with comparative genomics of 3004 global rice samples including 4 new Indian, we have characterized one long low diversity (LDR) region on chromosme 5 with domestication footprints. Subsequently, this LDR also mined for one grain size/weight QTL. Further, with population genomics, this region is also identified as one of the divergence point between japonica, indica and aus rice types.

April 2020

  • A new study and resource development from our lab is out "Designing a Mini-core Collection Effectively Representing 3004 Diverse Rice Accessions", and it got published in Plant Communications (Cell Press).

Here, we have developed a small (520 accessions) and manageable mini-core panel, effectively mirroring the diverse genotypic, phenotypic and geographical attributes of 3004 global rice accessions. For GWAS utility, this mini-core is as good as original collection.

Oct-Dec 2019

  • Congratulations to Dr. Jitendra singh for his selection in Senior Research Associateship (Scientist's Pool Scheme).

  • Congratulations to Dr. Alim junaid for his selection in National Post Doctoral Fellowship.

  • Congratulations to Dr. Sourobh Maji and team for selection of their work among the best paper of NIPGR 2019.

  • Dr. Angad Kumar delivered oral presentation in computational biology hosted by Jawaharlal Nehru University.

  • JKT lab showcased an exhibition "Plant Genome evolution: A case of Rice crop domestication" on the NIPGR open day 2019.

September 2019

  • A new study from our lab is out "The Mediator subunit OsMED15a is a transcriptional co-regulator of seed size/weight–modulating genes in rice", and it got published in Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Regulatory Mechanisms.

The finding identifies Med15a as a novel grain size/weight QTL in rice regulating the expression of downstream GW2, GW5                 and D11 genes, via its KIX & OsNAC024 interaction.
